Horta, on Faial

The park downtown was landscaped like a private estate.

The streets and sidewalks were paved with cobblestones. Shops lined every street in the town.

The ivy covered wall is in front of the Government House and behind me is the main square.

The square surrounds the Police Station, the Post Office, and Telecom Company as well as the best shops in town.

One of the best boat paintings I saw. I'm going to design something special for 'Sailabration' before I sail to the Azores.

The marina and city from the island ferry dock. They have a fast catamaran as well as an old time ferry.

Peter's Sport Cafe is the most famous bar in the world. There was a steady series of tourists who just had to get their picture taken in front of the cafe. The local beer was fantastic and cheeper than a Coke.

The downtown area was decorated with a series of small shops that served traditional Azores food. I LOVED IT! I'll be back someday soon.

This shop was my favorite. I tried everything except blood sausage. I tried that in Ireland and didn't care for it then and I bet I wouldn't here either.

Just behind the marina was a cafe that served a good breakfast. And they had coffee if you needed a jolt. The cups were like thimbles, but they had a kick!

Just to the right of the cafe was the bandstand. Our boat 'Little Wing' a Beneteau First 30 was about 50 ft from the bandstand. They didn't even start to slow down till past 2AM.

Another example of the boat art on the wall behind our boat. The paint was still wet when I took the picture.

If you are going to make a long passage a wind steering vane is a good idea. The family who sailed this boat was from the Netherlands and I gave my fishing gear to their 10 year old twins. I hope they catch a tuna on the way home.

The only paved road on the island circles the island. I'm on my way to the airport and home.

Another view of the homes on the island. I could live here! The Azores would be a great place to retire too.

Sunset over Lisbon as I fly toward Europe. I left Horta on the 8th at 2:30PM and was home on the 9th at 10pm. And that's with a 12 hour layover in Madrid!

Somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean on the way home we flew over a storm. I wish I was somewhere down there with a reefed main and a storm jib flying. I loved the trip and I'll be back as soon as I can.
